Perils of Great Power Rivalry: The China-Russia-United States Triangle
12 Jan 2023

The RSIS Distinguished Public Dialogue, held on 12 Jan 2023, examined the dynamics of Great Power relations at this perilous juncture in world affairs. The discussion focused on two particularly momentous sets of issues: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (and the US-European-Western and broader international response); and US-China relations (including the impact of the 20th Party Congress in Beijing and the Biden-Xi summit).

What are the top issues and potential crises that might develop in 2023? What are the longer-term challenges and dangers for the remainder of the 2020s?

Ambassador Ong Keng Yong chaired the dialogue. Speakers include Dr Bates Gill, Executive Director of Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis, member of the Board of Governors at RSIS, and Board Advisor of the National Bureau of Asian Research; Dr Hoo Tiang Boon, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the China Programme at RSIS; and Dr Bhubhindar Singh, Associate Professor, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs), and Head of Graduate Studies at RSIS.
