The threat of extremist terrorism has seen a dip in impact during the pandemic but has not receded, and a resurgence of traditional terror organisations like the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) remains. The JI’s network of religious boarding schools has remained active in propagating its hard-line teachings. These deep-rooted networks are exceptionally resilient and almost never die, noted security analyst Dr Noor Huda Ismail, a Visiting Fellow at the RSIS in Singapore, who has been helping to rehabilitate radicals, including former JI members.
