- Singapore’s Successes and Failures: Retuning the Talk
In a commentary, Han Fook Kwang, a Senior Fellow at RSIS and The Straits Times Editor-at-Large discussed how there is nothing wrong with highlighting one’s achievements, but officials should also not fear discussing failures. Facing up to shortcomings is usually more productive, he said, citing a problem with the way the Singapore Public Sector Outcomes Review – a biennial record of how the country has fared by the Public Service – was written. The way it described what has been achieved – in key areas such as education, housing, healthcare and the workplace, as well as in the arts and entertainment – made it sound as if it has all the answers and that life here was hunky-dory for everyone, he opined.
