In an online commentary, Benjamin Ang, Senior Fellow at RSIS’ Centre of Excellence for National Security (CENS), said that the restriction of internet access in the public sector may result in new cybersecurity risks. He said that public servants may adopt ‘shadow IT’ (i.e. using unauthorised services like Dropbox, Google Drive) when their productivity is affected, and public sector organisations could either approve such tools for use or develop alternative solutions without compromising security and productivity.
