Protests: The King is Dead, Long Live the King!
Dr James M Dorsey, a senior fellow at RSIS, wrote that a clamour for transparent, accountable rule that delivers public goods and services is at the core of the protests in cities ranging from Hong Kong and Moscow to Khartoum and Algiers. This is even if some are framed as battles for environmental and economic issues and against corruption, rather than democracy or in terms of nationalism, civilisationalism, racism and opposition to migration.
