There is a need to adopt a progressive culture so that there can be a balance in keeping religious faith while dealing with societal changes, said Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim on Thursday (Apr 28).

He was speaking at a conference – organised by the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies – discussing challenges Muslims face in the contemporary world.

As an example, Dr Yaacob cited Singapore Muslims, who fulfil their religious obligations while contributing towards the development of the country. It is this contextual approach towards the practice of faith, which Dr Yaacob said “has proven to be effective” for Singapore.
