- Prof Linda Lim, NTUC Professor of International Economic Relations, RSIS, Shares Her Views on China-ASEAN Relations
President Xi’s speech has a very strong nationalistic focus. Was it simply a flourish to end the eventful People’s Congress or should we be reading between the lines? It also marks the start of President Xi’s second term as president. What can we glean from his speech about the future of his leadership? Now that President Xi has a longer time – how does he then craft China’s economy moving forward, and how does that down the line, link up with ASEAN, for example? What does it mean when Beijing says it’s “blazing a new trail for other developing countries” through advocacy of a “Chinese model of development”?
Prof Linda Lim, NTUC Professor of International Economic Relations, RSIS, and Professor Emerita of Corporate Strategy and International Business, Stephen M Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, shares her views.
