Executives of the region’s sovereign wealth funds are now searching for distressed debt opportunities. “The Gulf sovereign wealth funds have always invested overseas as a way of diversifying the economy and creating a broader revenue base,” said James Dorsey, a senior fellow RSIS. “But given the severity of this economic downturn, the question is whether this is still the right way to use those sovereign wealth funds,” he added.
