- Middle East Braces for Fallout of US-China Divide
In a first of a two-part commentary by Dr. James M. Dorsey, Senior Researcher at the RSIS in Singapore, the rivalry in the Middle East between the U.S. and China, was discussed. China would like the world to believe that the Middle East and North Africa region does not rank high on its totem pole despite its energy dependence, significant investment and strategic relationships with the region, he said. With relations with the US rapidly deteriorating, China’s primary focus is still on its main battleground: the Asia-Pacific. However, China is realising that remaining aloof in the Middle East may not be sustainable.
