- Malaysia Election: Kelantan Voters Could Turn to BN, Amanah as Support for PAS Wanes
A day before Malaysia’s 14th general election, many voters in Kelantan said they want a change in leadership in the state assembly.
Since devastating floods hit Kelantan in 2014, the state governed by Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) has been slow to relocate the flood victims in Kampung Limau Kasturi. Since then, many believed Barisan Nasional will do a better job.
Malaysia political analyst and senior fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Yang Razali Kassim told Channel NewsAsia that although PAS governed Kelantan for 28 years, it “has not been able to show much progress”.
He added that the party has also now to contend with the breakaway Parti Amanah Negara, part of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pakatan Harapan coalition.
