Looking Up to Leaders to Tell the Hard Truth
Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat recently defended the government in response to a recent Lianhe Zaoabo editorial that listed a number of failures in recent months that had eroded public confidence in the public service. While it is too sweeping to link the recent events to a slack in public service, RSIS senior fellow Han Fook Kwang wrote in a commentary that Singaporeans have generally become more sceptical of the Government’s claim about its competence and commitment than in the past. Behind the concern is whether the 4G leaders have what it takes to be as competent and farsighted as their predecessors, he added.
