Many people are sceptical of inter-faith dialogues and meetings, including himself, wrote RSIS senior fellow Han Fook Kwang in a commentary. But the inaugural International Conference on Cohesive Societies (ICCS) co-organised by RSIS last month showed that bringing religion into these discussions could help achieve deep understanding and develop trust among people of different faiths. Dr Paul Hedges, an associate professor of RSIS who spoke at the conference, said research has shown that inter-faith dialogues tend to strengthen one’s own belief because it forces you to think more deeply about your own faith.
