Gulf Cooperation Council has experienced rocky relations before, but none as severe as the three-year blockade on Qatar. James M Dorsey, a Senior Fellow at the RSIS, wrote in Modern Diplomacy that some Qatari officials believe “gaining control of Qatari gas reserves was a main objective of the Saudi-UAE boycott”.
