Global Experts: Khashoggi’s Death Used to Further Destabilise Middle East
Overlooked in the heated rhetoric about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi is the larger issue of stability in the Middle East, where countries such as Turkey and Iran would stand to gain from a weakening US-Saudi relationship. RSIS senior fellow James Dorsey questioned whether the Turkish goal is to significantly weaken Saudi Arabia, and in doing so, strengthen Turkey’s regional position and negotiating position vis-à-vis Saudi Arabia and possibly the US.
