Talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump – to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Vietnamese capital Hanoi – are expected to focus on concrete action by the North towards denuclearisation and corresponding US measures that can include partial lifting of sanctions. A possible outcome, according to Dr Graham Ong-Webb of the RSIS, is Mr Kim expressing a commitment to dismantle parts of the North’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capability according to a timetable. Dr Ong-Webb added that Mr Trump, having bagged a Nobel Peace Prize nomination, could be more willing to make concessions in the name of peace.
