Chongqing and Singapore Sign Up for Better Ties
Businesses and state agencies in Singapore and Chongqing yesterday sealed about 30 deals to boost trade and government cooperation, with the Chinese megacity’s top boss Chen Miner cheering on the growing links. Chen, the Communist Party chief for Chongqing and a close aide of President Xi Jinping, is in Singapore on a four-day visit that began on Tuesday. James Char, an associate research fellow at the RSIS, said Chen had a close relationship with Xi and Chen’s age also places him in a good position to potentially succeed the incumbent leader when Xi eventually retires.
