Chinese President Xi Jinping’s rare single-country visit to Myanmar starting yesterday is a declaration that those days are long gone and Beijing is getting down to business again, analysts said. “Having an operational deep seaport there will fulfil China’s geopolitical needs in the longer term, and will also provide Beijing with greater incentive to promote Chinese (and Myanmar) economic interests in the country,” says Mr James Char, an assoc research fellow at RSIS.
