Beijing’s Strategic Messaging Shifts to West Asia
A strong China-Iran link in the economic and strategic domains will counter the US attempt to shift the focus of the world to the Indo-Pacific. RSIS Senior Fellow James Dorsey said: “Numerous agreements signed by Presidents’ Xi Jinping and Hassan Rouhani during the Chinese leader’s visit to the Middle East in 2016 would, if implemented, expand economic relations between the two countries by a factor of ten to $600 billion and significantly enhance military cooperation.”
