- Barred Militants Can Still Pose Security Risk to Indonesia
After months of heated debate, the Indonesian government has decided not to repatriate former militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group and their families, but analysts warned that the move would not stop them from sneaking into the country illegally. “Many of them can go home themselves without the help from the government,” Dr Noor Huda Ismail, a de-radicalisation expert and visiting fellow at RSIS. “They could rejuvenate sleeping cells to bring havoc not only to the country, but also to the region,” said Dr Noor Huda, who has produced several documentaries on radicalisation, such as Jihad Selfie and Seeking The Imam.
