Now that the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the economic and social upheaval that it brings, is expected to last until the end of 2020 or beyond, impacting all corners of the globe, there is a chance that Singapore’s food security strategies will be tested again, said experts. For any nation, forming a viable food security strategy is usually a fine balancing act between self-reliance and self-sufficiency, said Prof Paul Teng, an adjunct senior fellow at the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies at RSIS.
