Will Myanmar’s Coup Help China Influence ASEAN?
In an opinion piece, Henrick Z Tsjeng, Associate Research Fellow at RSIS, discussed Myanmar’s coup and its impact on China influence on ASEAN. China’s outreach efforts, coupled with an upcoming ASEAN–China country coordinator seen as more China-friendly, seem to put Beijing in a position to increase its influence over ASEAN in 2021. But such a view is premature, he said.
