Unification A Must for China, No Matter Which Way Taiwan Votes
Since President Tsai Ing-wen’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) scored a landslide win in the 2016 vote, cross-strait ties have deteriorated, with her rejecting the 1992 Consensus, an agreement by both sides that there is just one China. Dr Hoo Tiang Boon, who researches cross-strait ties at RSIS, said China would be hoping for Ms Tsai to make a concession by acknowledging the 1992 Consensus should she win.
