Trump May Seek Trade Deal with China

While the results of the US midterm elections are unlikely to greatly change President Donald Trump’s policy towards China, some experts think he may be forced to seek a diplomatic outcome in the trade war with China. Asst Prof Evan Resnick, who is also coordinator of the United States Programme at RSIS, said the trade risks for Hong Kong are growing as it is increasingly coming under China’s control, while Democrats and Republicans are “going to be more likely to see eye to eye in adopting a relatively protectionist trade policy”.
