Threat to Terminate US-Philippine Pact Resonates Around Southeast Asia
In an article that looked at how countries in the region are managing the rivalry between Washington and Beijing, Collin Koh, a research fellow at RSIS in Singapore, said ASEAN governments now have more options for security ties with powers other than the US. “Some of these external powers outside Southeast Asia, in fact, are keen to step up to the plate to augment and, if necessary, partially offset the reduction of a US military presence,” he said.
