Tackling Disconnect With Citizens Crucial

Hong Kong watchers say a lesson learnt from the recent social and political unrest is the need for alternative voices and better communication so that the connection between government and citizen in Hong Kong does not collapse the way it has in recent years. Asst Prof Hoo Tiang Boon from RSIS noted that there could be groupthink within Mrs Lam’s administration “because all of them are pro-Beijing, all of them are busy thinking how to please General Secretary Xi”, referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
