Signs Seem to Point to Jokowi Victory as Indonesians Go to Polls Next Week
Indonesians will go to the polls in just one week to vote in what has been touted as the world’s largest, single-day elections. The stakes are high as voters not only have to decide on their local and regional leaders, but also between the incumbent Joko Widodo and his rival, Mr Prabowo Subianto, for the presidency. “It is interesting that Jokowi has both built a coalition threatened by growing conservatism, while at the same time sought to partially accommodate it through the selection of Ma’ruf and courting conservative ulamas,” said associate research fellow Andar Nubowo from RSIS.
