- Pyongyang Raising Tensions but Unlikely to Go to War with South Korea
Analysts believe Pyongyang’s latest move of blowing up the inter-Korea liaison office stems from its unhappiness with inter-Korean relations, as well as the stalled denuclearisation talks with the US and its desire to move things along. The North Koreans have concluded that dialogue over the past two years has not produced its desired outcomes and have decided on a new approach, said Mr Shawn Ho, Associate Research Fellow at RSIS. Its destruction of the symbolic inter-Korean liaison office is meant to send a strong signal of this decision, he added. The new approach will be a more hardline one that favours action, both by Pyongyang and Seoul, over dialogue, words and statements, he said.
