Move to Lower Training Tempo a Good Initial Response, Say Observers
The move by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to lower its training tempo across all services for the first time after five fatal incidents in 16 months is a good initial response, said defence observers. Mr Eddie Lim from RSIS said that the SAF’s call to halt all high-risk training temporarily is its way of ensuring that time is taken to review and reinforce its training safety protocols. RSIS assoc research fellow Ho Shu Huang said that beyond calling for a safety timeout, lowering the training tempo is an additional concrete action that allows the SAF to demonstrate its commitment to training safety.
