Malaysian Govt Wants to Make Sarawak an Equal Partner, So Why did it Say No?
Piya Sukhani, Research Analyst with the Malaysia Programme at RSIS, wrote in a commentary that the restoration of Sabah and Sarawak’s rights in accordance with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 was not passed after it failed to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Tensions have increased between the Sarawak state government and the federal government. He relates several factors at play that explain this development.
