In Indonesia, Student Clashes With Police over New Laws Spark Comparisons With Hong Kong
Thousands of Indonesian students have protested against controversial legal changes that would discriminate against minorities, restrict free speech and hamper graft investigations. Research fellow Alexander Arifianto from NTU said the law curbing the Corruption Eradication Commission’s authority would reduce the agency to “a toothless and ineffective paper tiger” if it were enacted.
