Coronavirus: Can India Stay Focused as China, US Set to Clash at World Health Assembly?
As the new chair of the World Health Organisation’s executive board, New Delhi must keep politics out of the debate as nations gather to discuss ways to fight Covid-19, academics say. “India seems to be gearing up to bite the bullet,” said Rajeev Ranjan Chaturvedy, an international relations expert at RSIS. “It has accepted help from Taiwan in its fight against the pandemic, and while it has been mindful of China’s sensitivities, Beijing’s behaviour has been disappointing on India’s sensitivities. It is also consulting legal experts and, perhaps, will use some creative diplomatic signalling to find a middle way.”
