ASEAN Unwilling to Get Tough on North Korea for Economic Benefits
In the year since the historic first US-North Korea nuclear summit in Singapore, ASEAN countries have become unwilling to get tough on North Korea, with some eyeing economic benefits from Pyongyang in the future. Shawn Ho, an associate research fellow at the RSIS, said, “ASEAN member states believe it is important to remain neutral in their respective foreign policies.”
