- Prospects for a Peace Deal in Thailand’s Deep South
Despite agreements on a ceasefire due to the COVID-19 health crisis, conflict in Thailand’s Deep South does not offer much prospect for peace, wrote Research Analyst Kenneth Yeo and Senior Analyst Jasminder Singh, both from RSIS, in a commentary. The current heath crisis offers an opportunity for the Thai authorities and insurgents to strike a favourable peace deal that suits all parties, but disunity within Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) insurgent group’s leadership, and between BRN and other insurgent groups, will be considerable obstacles to overcome.
