Both US presidential election candidates Joe Biden and Donald Trump have advantages and disadvantages in China’s perspective. Trump and China’s leader Xi Jinping men will pose challenges but also offer China opportunities to assert its own international leadership, said analysts. “If Trump were to win, yes. If Biden wins, he may not be softer vis-a-vis Trump, but there would be an opportunity and opening for potentially more moderate relations,” said Dr Hoo Tiang Boon, a China scholar at RSIS. There will still be rivalry, but it will be a “much more rational, strategic kind of competition”, said Dr Hoo.
