Truce Augurs Well for Both Sides to Work Towards Normal Ties
The trade war truce following the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump has set a “good foundation” for future talks, said Chinese state media and experts, who were quick to characterise the outcome as a momentous and positive development. Assoc Prof Li Mingjiang of RSIS noted that China has long rejected American complaints, and for it to agree to discuss this openly indicates that Beijing is now willing to make much greater concessions. These reforms “are needed not just for the trade war, but for China’s development,” he added.
