Indira Feared Military Coup, Says Book on India’s Civil-military Relations
In the early years of her tenure in office, India’s late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was quite worried about a possible military coup, says a book by a former army officer turned academic, Anit Mukherjee. But Mukherjee, who now teaches in at RSIS, said that worry changed after India’s military victory over Pakistan in 1971.
