Ending War Games Suits China, Cuts US Leverage, Say Analysts

America will “save a fortune” by discontinuing military exercises with its ally South Korea, President Donald Trump tweeted soon after arriving home yesterday.

But analysts in the United States and across North-east Asia see the suspension as a gift to China and a premature giveaway of US leverage.

Associate Professor Li Mingjiang of the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies said: “It is in China’s security interest to see the reduction of American military presence and the reduction of America’s security role in North-east Asia.”
