Virtual Hustings For A COVID-19 Singapore General Election
For the first time in the history of the nation’s elections, the battle for Singaporeans’ votes is likely not to be waged at rallies on grassy fields, but in a virtual arena. Security expert Shashi Jayakumar said malicious actors might try to “interdict and corrupt” digital campaigning through the use of cyber-attacks or deep fakes. “Given the compressed time period during campaigning in Singapore, this type of interference, unless spotted and stopped at a very early stage, could conceivably affect mindsets and thinking of individual voters,” said Dr Jayakumar, from NTU’s RSIS.
