- Understanding the Perceptions of Meritocracy Among Singaporean Youth
In a commentary, RSIS research fellow Terri-Anne Teo and senior fellow Norman Vasu shared the results of their study “Singaporean Youth and Socioeconomic Mobility,” which found that while the majority of the Singaporean youth interviewed perceive socioeconomic mobility to be possible in theory, four demographic factors – class, education, ethnicity and gender – are seen to prevent Singapore’s meritocratic system from performing optimally.
