Firms, Hobbyists Weigh In On New 3D-Printing Weapons Law

Speaking during the Parliament debate on the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Bill on Jan 4, Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Tan said the criminalising of such possession is meant to address the ease of manufacturing a workable gun using a 3D printer with resources – such as blueprints – from the Internet. Mr Muhammad Faizal Abdul Rahman, a Research Fellow at the RSIS, warned that while there had been no reported cases of 3D-printed guns used in terrorist attacks, terrorists are known to improvise their tactics and tools.
