- Coronavirus: Why aren’t Singapore Residents Using the TraceTogether Contact-Tracing App?
According to a survey conducted by Singapore-based independent pollster Blackbox Research, 45 per cent of respondents did not download TraceTogether – a mobile app that leverages short-distance Bluetooth signals between mobile phones to detect other participating users within the vicinity – even though they had heard of it, and the main consideration was that they “did not want the government tracing their movements”. “At the heart of this is a trust issue,” said Teo Yi-Ling, a Senior Fellow at RSIS. She noted that even though authorities had stressed how data would not be misused, people still remembered past instances of cyberattacks on government databases.
