The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in the Post-Nik Aziz Era
Lecture Abstract:
Nik Aziz Nik Mat, the spiritual leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) is perhaps one the most important religio-political figures in Malaysia since the 1970s. His passing in Feb 2015 has a major impact on PAS and Malaysian politics This seminar seeks to analyse the impact of his passing on the internal politics of PAS. The speaker will address the issue of PAS’ internal division and its impact on the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition. Issues such as PAS’ recent attempt to implement Islamic criminal laws in Malaysia and the recent jailing of Anwar Ibrahim will also be assessed.
About the Speaker:
Ustaz Mohd Khalil Abdul Hadi is the deputy youth chief of the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). He is the eldest son of PAS President, Abdul Hadi Awang. He graduated from the Al-Iman University in Yemen and is currently a lecturer at the Darul Quran Islamiyah College in Manir, Terengganu
