The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Programme was started in 2017 to examine the different facets of vulnerability facing women in the region. It also explores the transformative appeal of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and the WPS agenda in creating sustainable policies, ensuring greater participation and facilitating the move towards a more gendered perspective on development – a primary step in creating more resilient communities. It hopes to look beyond the provenance of Resolution 1325 and examine how the four pillars of WPS can increase the involvement of women and decrease the disparities they face across the three pillars of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Community. This panel discussion, jointly organised by the Centre for Non-Traditional Security Studies at RSIS and the Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore, will cover areas such as women in natural disasters, women and human trafficking, and women and political participation in Southeast Asia.
