About the Speaker:
Madam Yan Junqi was born in Shanghai, China. She is a state leader of China, as she has been the Vice-Chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee for two consecutive terms since 2008. She is the leader of a party in China, as she held the position of Chairwoman of the Central Committee of China Association for Promoting Democracy from 2007 to 2017. She is a scholar, as she used to be the Associate Professor, Professor and Tutor for doctoral students at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She also worked as Assistant to President of SJTU and Dean of its School of Mechanics, and also earned a doctorate at the Department of Ocean Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. She also served as Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, the most developed city in China, accumulating rich experience in regional governance.
