Abstract
The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) will host the annual conference of the NTS-Asia Consortium in Singapore on 27-28 March 2018. The theme for this year’s conference is “Resilience in the Face of Disruptions”. The conference will bring together members of NTS-Asia Consortium to discuss and take stock of the disruptions in various NTS areas today. Established in 2007, NTS-Asia Consortium is a network of 31 research institutes and think tanks across Asia that aims to facilitate intellectual exchange between scholars and analysts that work on a wide range of non-traditional security (NTS) issues.
Disruption refers to an event that challenges an existing order and may catalyse gradual or radical changes in norms and practices in economic activity, security and political stability within state and society. Our world today is facing a number of disruptive factors that potentially alter the way we live our lives including, among others, climate change and technological development. From the NTS perspective, it is critical to identify the drivers of disruption in various sectors such as environment and climate, agriculture and food, humanitarian crisis and forced displacement, and cyber space, so as to enhance the security of states and people. The one and a half-day event aims at providing an enabling environment to discuss multidisciplinary approaches and solutions to building and enhancing resilience in the face of the complex challenges brought about by disruptions.
A networking dinner for NTS-Asia Consortium members and invited guests will also be held on the first day of the Conference.
