The ASEAN Strategic Policy Dialogue on Disaster Management (SPDDM) is co-organised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre) and is held annually in Singapore, in conjunction with the World Humanitarian Day. The inaugural SPDDM in 2015 provided an important impetus to the development of the “ASEAN Vision 2025 on Disaster Management”, charting the strategic direction for ASEAN in disaster management over the next decade. The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) serves as the 2018 SPDDM knowledge partner for its theme “Building ASEAN’s Resiliency to Disasters” to spark discourse on how ASEAN can continue building on its achievements till date to enhance the resiliency of the region. In line with ASEAN’s theme of ‘Partnership for Sustainability’ under Thailand’s Chairmanship this year, the conference would also look at how partnerships contribute towards building ASEAN’s resiliency in times of disasters. In this regard, the inputs gathered from the speakers and participants would be referenced in the development of the next AADMER Work Programme 2021 – 2025.
