Dr Nah Liang Tuang’s Lecture at the KNDU
By Ian Li
In September 2018, Dr Nah Liang Tuang, Research Fellow in the Military Studies Programme, a component programme of the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies at RSIS, gave a lecture at the Korean National Defence University (KNDU) campus in Nonsan, South Korea.
RSIS and KNDU signed an MoU in 2016 as recognition of both institutions’ commitment to further professional education for their respective military professionals, as well as enhancing partnerships in academic research with like-minded peer institutions. This is the third time a member of the RSIS faculty has spoken at KNDU. Similarly, KNDU Senior Officers’ Course has visited RSIS twice over the years.
At the lecture titled “ASEAN and the Great Powers”, Dr Nah spoke about ASEAN’s history, its strength in getting various powers to agree to peaceful norms, its challenges relating to territorial or controversial issues, and ASEAN’s relations with both the United States and China.
Dr Nah’s lecture was well-received by the students and faculty of KNDU. RSIS looks forward to the continuation of RSIS-KNDU staff/ student exchanges in the years to come.
