In 2016, Taipei launched its smart city project with a dedicated Project Management Office to promote smart city policies and solutions. However, there is a dearth of literature, particularly of holistic studies, on Taipei as a smart city. This study seeks to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of this topic by examining smart city policies in Taipei; uncovering the motivation and rationale behind them; and analysing Taipei’s approach and key challenges in implementing them.
