China’s plans to become a world leader in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030 have drawn worldwide attention. Yet, little is known about the grand strategy that will bring that goal to fruition. In that regard, it is worth examining how China plans to realise its AI ambition. This research project aims to unpack the implementation of China’s AI education at various school levels – primary, secondary, and tertiary education – to ascertain how it is central to the country’s AI push. It also aims to examine how the country’s AI education can position the Chinese economy to gain from the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
