NADI Workshop on Prosperity and Security through Defense Diplomacy

The NADI Workshop on “Prosperity and Security through Defense Diplomacy”, hosted by the Indonesian Defense University (IDU), was held at the Aston Kuta Hotel & Residence, Bali, Indonesia, from 25 to 28 October 2015. Lieutenant General I Wayan Midhio (Rector, IDU) chaired the Workshop. Representatives from the NADI institutions of Brunei, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand attended the Workshop. Cambodia was not represented at the Workshop, while Myanmar and Vietnam were represented by their Military Attachés from their respective Embassies in Jakarta. The Workshop agreed that defence diplomacy is important for maintaining ASEAN centrality and solidarity, which are in turn crucial for fostering a good and stable atmosphere for maintaining regional peace and economic development. The delegates had a frank exchange of views following their presentations on their respective national perspectives on the topic of the Workshop. The NADI Workshop Chairman’s report highlighted the recommendations adopted by the Workshop participants, to advance defence diplomacy and to maintain ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture. The NADI Workshop Chairman’s report will be submitted to the ADMM Track for their consideration.
